North West Legislature hosts Agriculture Sectoral Parliament at Ga-Matlabe Village, 18 Mar

North West Legislature to Host Agriculture Sectoral Parliament at Ga-Matlabe Village near Potchefstroom

On Friday, 18 March 2022, the North West Provincial Legislature will be hosting the Agriculture Sectoral Parliament under the theme: Exploring available and possible opportunities in Agriculture;"at the Ga Matlabe Community Hall near Potchefstroom, JB Marks Local Municipality at 10h00.

The sectoral parliament discussions will focus on the following topics;

  • Land Bank's interventions biased towards ensuring that the sector creates jobs.
  • Opportunities and support available for black farmers in within Agri-Northwest including how Black Farmers can play a meaningful role in
  • Opportunities available through Agri-banking.
  • The Impact and opportunities of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Agriculture.
  • Interventions biased towards uplifting communal and commercial farmers in the North West.

The objective of the sectoral parliament is to ensure that oversight and public participation is enhanced by creating a platform for the relevant stakeholders in the North West province and to engage with Members of Provincial Legislature and the Executive on issues of agriculture as a significant contributor to the provincial economy. Furthermore, the event is aimed at formulating a provincial working programme geared towards ensuring that emerging farmers are capacitated in order to enhance the sector and to build sustainable stakeholder relations that will deepen participatory democracy.

The North West Provincial Legislature recognises the pivotal role played by the agricultural sector in the economy of the province, hence the sectoral parliament will focus the debate on the theme. The Agricultural sector's significance in the society cannot be overlooked and has to be enhanced through engagements by relevant stakeholders.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Land Bank, Department of Land Reform, Agri-North West, structured and non-structured Agri forums and emerging and established role-players in the agricultural sector will attend the event.

The observation of all COVID 19 protocols and regulations will be adhered to in hosting the session. The event will be streamed live in the North West Provincial Legislature Facebook and other social media platforms such as YouTube Channel.
