Sustainable September at the Destin Library

The Destin Library presents Sustainable September with activities for all ages that teach how to transform unused items around your home into upcycled tools and treasures. Reuse your today so you don't have to reduce your tomorrow! To kick-off the month-long program, beginning September 1st, the library invites you to bring in your clean, plastic grocery bags and in return, you will receive a free, reusable tote. This is a perfect time to unload those plastic bags you've been accumulating in a closet or under the sink. There is a limit of one tote per family and supplies are limited, so trade in your unused bags early.

On September 2nd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the library is hosting a Sustainable Sewing program suitable for ages 12 and up. Come learn a few basic sewing skills while making a reusable bowl cover to take home. This bowl cover helps reduce dependence on single-use plastics and is a great way to use leftover fabric. All supplies for this craft will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own fabric to use if they'd like. Please register for this program by visiting okaloosa.librarycalendar.com, clicking on the Sustainable September event, and filling out the short registration form under the event details.

But that's not all! Be on the lookout for more programs for children and adults throughout the month. If you have any questions, please contact the Destin Library at 850-837-8572 or [email protected].
