Seminar on Pier Paolo Pasolini at the Embassy in Tehran

The Italian Embassy in Tehran hosted a study day on Pier Paolo Pasolini. The seminar, organized as part of the Embassy's rich session dedicated to the Italian intellectual's relationship with Iran on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, was held on 30 May 2022 at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador, Giuseppe Perrone. About 60 people attended the event, including scholars, professors, and students at the faculties of Italian Studies at the University of Tehran and the Islamic Azad University of Tehran, as well as from the Italian high school "Pietro della Valle".

The event, introduced and moderated by Ambassador Perrone, focused on Pasolini's representation of Iran and the contribution of Iranian studies on Pasolini. Speakers included Roberto Villa, author of the still photographs of "Il fiore delle mille e una notte" [Arabian Nights]; Roberto Chiesi, head of the Centro Studi-Archivio Pier Paolo Pasolini of the Cineteca Bologna, connected from Italy; and Iranian scholars, Alireza Niazzadeh Najafi and Iman Basiri, who examined how Pasolini's work was received in Iran by exploring the translations of his works in Farsi and the dissemination of his filmography.

The Italian Embassy's celebrations in Tehran for Pasolini's centenary, which opened last February, will be crowned by the opening, in early June, of the exhibition "Le mille e una notte di Pasolini" [Pasolini's Arabian Nights] organized by the Embassy itself and the Pejman Foundation, in collaboration with the Fondo Roberto Villa in Milan.
