Brown Announces More Than $2 Million For Health and Public Safety Workforce Training in Rootstown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded $2,168,795 in grant funding over the next three years to the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown to support the local health and public safety workforces. These funds come from HRSA's Health and Public Safety Workforce Resiliency Training Program, which will help NEOMED provide evidence-informed training to reduce burnout and promote mental health care for the healthcare and public safety workforces. These funds were made possible through the American Rescue Plan, which Brown helped write and pass.

"Health care workers had stressful jobs before the pandemic, and COVID-19 has only exacerbated the challenges this workforce has to navigate on a daily basis, not to mention the added stress the pandemic has created for caregivers," said Brown. "The American Rescue Plan is providing this critical investment in training for healthcare professionals in Rootstown to give them the tools and resources to manage stress and build resiliency so they can continue to serve their communities."

HRSA has announced $103 million in American Rescue Plan funding, to be awarded over three years, to reduce burnout and promote mental health in the health workforce. These awards, which take into particular consideration the needs of rural and medically underserved communities, will help health care organizations establish a culture of wellness among the health workforce and will support training efforts that build resiliency for those at the beginning of their health careers.
