200 media and journalism students trained during World Press Freedom Day

Zimbabwe hosted the national World Press Freedom Day commemoration event at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). Seasoned media practitioners delivered training for 200 media and journalism students on offline and online safety for journalists, content development, basics in news writing, among other topics on the 4th of May 2022.

Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting services, Kindness Paradza, UNESCO Regional Advisor for Communication and Information Mr. Al-Amin Yusuph, NUST Vice Chancellor Professor Mqhele Dlodlo, Zimbabwe Media Commission and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Information, Media and Broadcasting Services chaired by Sipho Mokone were part of the training along with Media and Journalism students at NUST and Midlands State University [MSU].

Addressing delegates, Mr. Al-Amin Yusuph said journalists play an essential role in disseminating information and it is a public good that should be defended.

World Press Freedom Day celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom, evaluating press freedom globally, and defending the media from attacks on their independence.
