Taguhi Tovmasyan Meets with Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross

On September 13, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs met with the Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Thierry Ribaux and the Communication and Prevention Manager Zara Amatuni.

Issues regarding the situations caused after the war unleashed against the Artsakh Republic by Azerbaijan on 27 September 2020, the prior humanitarian problems on Artsakh conflict, including the Armenian captives and the missing persons.

The Committee Chair highlighted the implementation of the steps directed to specifying the status of the imprisoned persons, as well as ensuring their return. The ICRC representative explained to the Committee Chair the role of the structure in this issue, underlining the possibility of the regular visits to all Armenian captives confirmed by the authorities of Azerbaijan, as well as the provision of the connection between their and their families.

Both sides touched upon the hard situation created in the bordering zones, particularly discussed the problems emerged for the population and of vital importance.

Thierry Ribaux has presented the coordinated work by the ICRC, noting that the representatives of the organization meet with the families of the fallen, the missing persons and the imprisoned persons and try to support them. They also implement evaluation and give information about the results to the authorities in the format of secretive dialogue.

According to Thierry Ribaux, the ICRC carries out exclusively humanitarian and apolitical activities related to the conflict, working in the region from 1992 in Yerevan, Baku and Nagorno Karabakh through its offices.

The Committee Chair Taguhi Tovmasyan has informed that she regularly goes to border communities and she is well aware of the residents' problems. According to her, besides various issues it is necessary also to solve the problem of giving compensation to the suffered residents.
