Rep. Mack Jackson Celebrates Signing of Legislation Establishing Tax Credits for Rural Healthcare Professionals

ATLANTA - State Representative Mack Jackson (D-Sandersville) recently joined Governor Brian Kemp in Athens, Georgia as House Bill 82 was signed into law. Sponsored by Rep. Jackson, this legislation introduces a new tax credit of up to $5,000 for rural healthcare professionals, including physicians and dentists in rural counties, for up to five years of continuous practice.

HB 82 amends tax credit eligibility for rural physicians, restricting it to those who qualify by May 15, 2024, and ending the credit on December 31, 2029. Those in rural counties before May 15, 2023, need three years of non-rural practice to qualify for the new tax credit of up to $5,000. Prorated credits are available for partial first-year qualifications, capped at $2 million annually.

Representative Mack Jackson represents the citizens of District 128, which includes Glascock, Hancock, Warren and Washington counties, as well as portions of Baldwin and McDuffie counties. He was elected in 2008 and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development and the Health, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Reapportionment and Redistricting, Rules, Small Business Development, State Planning & Community Affairs and Transportation committees.
