There's no better place than Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area to hike, fish, ponder the starry sky, enjoy a bird walk, visit a historic home site, or just find a quiet place to relax. LLELA is open daily for fishing, hiking, camping, bird-watching, kayaking/canoeing, picnicking and other outdoor activities.

The gate entrance is at 201 E. Jones Street. Admission is $5 per vehicle (cash or check). For more information or to register for special events, call 972.219.3550.

A Chance to Hike
Saturday, Nov. 16
10 a.m. - noon

This free guided nature walk for members of the Special Needs community will take place along the wide and level crushed-granite surface of the Cottonwood trail. We may see signs of deer, coyote, or bobcat, and maybe even see an armadillo during this mile-long hike. No reservations required.

Noon - 3 p.m.

Step back in time when you visit the historic Minor-Porter log house. Visitors of all ages are welcome to arrive at any time during the open house. They'll get a feel for pioneer life as they tour the log home, smoke house, dugout, and homestead grounds. Knowledgeable docents will add to the experience. Visitors may even be able to try their hand at a craft from the 1870s. Admission is free with entrance to LLELA ($5 per vehicle, cash/check). Registration is not required.

Camping is as easy as ABC 123. Don't believe it? Spend a night out at LLELA with skilled guidance and gear. Leaders teach the basics from setting up a tent to preparing dinner over an open flame. $25 per person, ages 5 and up are welcome, and registration is required. Discounts available for parties of four or more. Camping site, camping gear (tent and sleeping pad), cookware, and firewood will be provided. There is no electricity on site. LLELA staff will offer on how to prepare for an off-the-grid experience after registration.Call 972.219.3550 for more details and to reserve a space.
