The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has met with the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Mauricio Claver-Carone to address the economic situation in Latin America; the impact of the pandemic and progress made on vaccinations; the role of development banks in the region; the attraction of investments and Spain's position as a strategic partner for Latin America. This was first bilateral meeting between the two since Claver-Carone's election in 2020.

The President of the Government of Spain noted that "Our country will always lead Europe in supporting Latin America. Increasing resources in the region is a priority action and Spain is a key part of this process given our natural stance towards Latin America and the leverage effect that we can exercise over the other European partners".
