Dacic Meets with Schmidt

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with International Community's High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt.

Assemblyt Speaker Dacic said that Serbia attaches great importance to relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina as an important neighbour and foreign policy partner with which it has a very well-developed cooperation in all areas, adding that Serbia respects the integrity and unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He went on to say that a balanced approach and full understanding of all the aspects of the relations between peoples is of great importance.

He expressed confidence that Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina can develop their economic ties and relations infinitely faster in the future.

Dacic and Schmidt exchanged views on the current political situation in the region, with a special focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and other Western Balkan countries' progress towards the European Union.

Schmidt said that the functionality of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an essential factor in reaching a level where international assistance is no longer needed, which is crucial for progress towards the EU. At the same time, Schmidt expressed support for the initiatives aimed at regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, which is a step forward on the path to the EU, where, in his opinion, the region belongs.
