Thousands of German premises are set to benefit from superfast broadband as Liberty Networks Germany, a new infrastructure provider, rolls out state of the art fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks in underserved areas of the country.

Liberty Global announced the formation and launch of Liberty Networks Germany, a joint venture (JV) with InfraVia Capital, in September this year. InfraVia Capital is a leading independent private equity firm specialising in infrastructure and technology investments. Each partner holds a 50% stake in the venture.

Under the 'helloFiber' brand, Liberty Networks Germany will carry out demand aggregation to identify areas where the roll out will be deployed. The expansion will kick off with construction of an area-wide FTTH network in Petershagen-Eggersdorf, Brandenburg. More than 7,000 homes and businesses are set to benefit from gigabit connectivity, with the project scheduled for completion in the next two years.

"With Liberty Networks Germany, we are now focusing on pure fibre rollout looking at cities in areas not served by gigabit. The aim is to quickly create opportunities for individual fibre connections as a reliable partner for municipalities." said Robert Dunn, Managing Director, Connectivity Investments at Liberty Global.

Having operated Unitymedia for a decade, Liberty Global brings extensive experience of the German market to the JV. Germany regularly ranks at the bottom of international comparisons when it comes to fibre coverage. The expansion of the fibre optic network is considered one of the most urgent infrastructure projects in order to advance the competitiveness of Germany as a business location and the modernization of the country.
