CORONASTEP Report 88 (Week 30) SARS-CoV-2 Sewage Surveillance in Luxembourg

This report 88 presents the results of SARS-CoV-2 contamination of wastewater analysed during the week 30 of 2021. Two sampling campaigns have been carried out this week, totalising 10 and 11 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), respectively. All the WWTPs included usually in the CORONASTEP study were not sampled or analysed, still as a follow-up of the floods that occurred during week 28. See Tables 2 and 3 for the listing of sampled WWTPs during week 30.

The SARS-CoV-2 RNA flux measured in wastewater treatment plants continues to show a high national prevalence of the virus, with a SARS-CoV-2 flux between 1 and 2 x 1011 RNA copies per day per 100,000 equivalent-inhabitants. These levels, although still high, confirmed however the reduction observed last weeks compared to the two first weeks of July when the flux was between 2.6 and 3.5 x 1011 RNA copies per day per 100,000 equivalent-inhabitants. Over the last month, a decreasing trend has been observed, with some individual WWTPs reaching the detection limit (green boxes in Table 2). There is no divergent trend at the level of individual WWTPs compared to the nation-wide evolution.
