Amata’s Statement Celebrating Flag Day 2024

"I am delighted to be with you this Flag Day as we celebrate and enjoy these special events as a people. Our unique Flag Day is an important way to hold our heritage in reverence as we honor our connection with the United States. Our forefathers in 1900 raised the U.S. flag on Tutuila, and Manu'a in 1904, leading us to become part of a great country, and opening doors of opportunity to generations that followed.

"Since World War II, the U.S. has borne the responsibility of leadership in the free world. American Samoa has a special part in that, as our many Veterans and Service Members have stood proudly for the cause of freedom. We love our Samoan way, our ancient culture, our language, and we are so proud of our deep patriotic ties to the United States of America. Happy Flag Day, and may God bless American Samoa and the USA together!"
