Temple awaits counterproposal from TAUP

Dear colleagues,

On Tuesday evening, Temple University's negotiating team met with representatives of the Temple Association of University Professionals (TAUP) with hopes of receiving a full proposal to counter the one the university presented to TAUP during the April 10 bargaining session. Unfortunately, the university did not receive one.

In negotiations, while both parties come to the table with different priorities, through the process of exchanging proposals, they work to find common ground. The university's goal has always been to reach a timely and mutually beneficial agreement to reward the hardworking faculty and staff members represented by TAUP. This is what Temple has done for years with TAUP and the other 10 collective bargaining units at the university; we always work to reach successful outcomes that ensure fair and sustainable terms of employment. Since TAUP negotiations began in August 2023, Temple has come to agreements with three other bargaining units, 1199C clerical, 1199C Professional/Technical Employees Association and PASNAP.

The university and TAUP have now been negotiating for eight months, and the union has been working without a contract since TAUP's expired on October 15, 2023. We are ready to move negotiations with TAUP forward and negotiate a fair contract with increases in salary and benefits for our outstanding faculty, librarians and academic professionals. Presently, they are the only university employees who have not received a raise since July 2022.

The university told TAUP that we need the union to present a full counterproposal to move this process forward. Once we receive and review a TAUP comprehensive counterproposal, the university is ready to respond as quickly as possible to continue to make progress toward a contract.

TAUP and the university will meet next on Wednesday, May 1, with three additional dates scheduled for May.
