Since reinstating the City's Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program two years ago, the program has proven popular, according to a recent City Council update.
Transportation& Public Works shuttered the program in 2014 because speed bumps hindered emergency response times.
In the meantime, complaints about speeding in neighborhoods kept coming.
As a result: In March 2022, the use of speed cushions and speed tables were approved and the traffic calming program went back into gear for low-volume, residential streets only. Since then, 124 applications for speed cushions have been received, according to the council report.
By the numbers: In the last year, speed cushions have been installed or are planned at 20 locations.

What's next: Installation takes three to four months from the date of TPW's receipt of a completed consent form.
How will we know it's working: Before and after evaluations are done to ensure the installations are reducing speed and meeting residents' expectations.
