Servicemen from India will participate in Zapad 2021 in Nizhny Novgorod region on the military equipment of West MD

The military contingent of India will take part in Zapad 2021 joint strategic exercise at Mulino training ground in Nizhny Novgorod region on the military equipment of the troops of the Western Military District.

From the airport of Nizhny Novgorod, Indian servicemen arrived at the Combat Training Centre of the Western Military District, located in Mulino settlement, Nizhny Novgorod Region, where they were accommodated in a comfortable field camp equipped with everything necessary for living and conducting joint training.

After their arrival, the servicemen from India adopted for temporary armament Russian equipment of the troops of the Western Military District: T-72B3 tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, in which they will take part in the drawing of the main stage of the exercise.

Zapad 2021 joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and is held every two years in accordance with the decision adopted by the heads of the two states.

Practical actions of troops (forces) will take place from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation and at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

About 200 thousand people take part in Zapad 2021, over 80 aircraft and helicopters are involved, up to 760 units of military equipment (over 290 tanks, over 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars), up to 15 ships. Of these, 12,800 servicemen, including up to 2,500 Russian military personnel, more than 30 aircraft and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment, including about 140 tanks, up to 110 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars will be used in maneuvers on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

The exercise also involves about 2,000 servicemen from member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other friendly countries.
