Atos reinforces role as leader in HPC with 10 new supercomputer entries in the TOP500 listing

Paris (France) June 29, 2021

Atos today announces that 10 new supercomputers, based on its BullSequana X high-performance infrastructure, are in the TOP500 global supercomputing ranking. This makes a total of 36 Atos supercomputers listed, with a combined peak performance of 206 petaflops - an increase of 27% in petaflops from the last TOP500 listing announced in November 2020.

Looking back over these last six months Atos has seen a flurry of HPC successes, in particular:

  • EuroHPC - its BullSequana will be used in five EuroHPC supercomputing centres - Sofia Tech Park at Bulgaria ('Discover'), CINECA in Italy ('Da Vinci'), IZUM in Slovenia, ('Vega') LuxProvide in Luxembourg ('MeluXina' which is also #4 in the GREEN500) and in the Minho Advanced Computing Centre in Portugal, reinforcing Atos' position as a European leader in high-performance computing.
  • The Linkoping University's 'Berzelius' supercomputerfor AI will use Atos' recently announced Atos ThinkAI solution to enable its researchers speed-up processing times on their complex data, empowering them to gain insights faster, using the power of deep learning and analytics.
  • 'Dragão' at Petrobras - Atos is proud to have developed, delivered and installed Petrobras' latest supercomputer, named 'Dragão'. Together with the two previous systems 'Atlas' and 'Fênix' already installed by Atos, it provides the most powerful HPC resources in Brazil and in the whole of Latin America.
  • 'Topaze' at the CCRT - a new supercomputer at the French CCRT based on the BullSequana XH2000solution from Atos, is the result of joint R&D by Atos and the CEA's Military Applications Directorate (DAM). It will soon be open to the first users, to start the 'Grand Challenges' phase, for very large-scale simulations.
  • 'Noctua2' at Paderborn University - the recently announced 'Noctua2' supercomputer at the University of Paderborn, based on Atos' BullSequana XH2000, will give the University the modern, highly available and flexible supercomputer infrastructure that is needed for excellent science and research.

Also announced: University of Edinburgh, Swansea University, Spanish State Meteorological Agency AEMET and JUWELS at Juelich Supercomputing Center, which is the fastest supercomputing system in Europe with a sustained peak performance of 44.1 HPL petaflops, and ranks #7 on the GREEN500.
