I will be visiting Noumea in New Caledonia from 4 to 5 May 2018.
While there, I will represent the Prime Minister at a series of eventsco-hosted by the Governments of France, New Caledonia and the Pacific Community about climate change, biodiversity and support for economic development in the Pacific.
I will meet and participate in a series of discussions with the President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of the New Caledonian Government Philippe Germain, French Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian and Director-General of the Pacific Community Colin Tukuitonga. I will also meet leaders from across the Pacific and the heads of regional organisations.
The 2017 Foreign Policy White Paper identified the Pacific region as a key priority. I will reiterate the importance of the region to Australia during my visit.
Australia is stepping up its engagement in the prosperity, security and stability of our region, in line with a vision for an open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific as a whole.
