Koh Kong province is pushing to build on the domestic popularity of its dipping sauce and expand into international markets.
The condiment has been widely known among Cambodian people for years, said the Ministry of Tourism, as it expressed its support to a group of women living in the Peam Krasop community in the Mondul Seima district.
Under ADB's Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project phase II, the ministry assisted the community by erecting a building for local residents to produce their quality dipping sauce.
"The ministry has provided a building to the Peam Krasop community for hygienic production, due to having seen the tourism potential. We particularly support food production by local residents in the community, so that they can generate income," Sok Chan Krisna, director of Koh Kong Provincial Tourism Department, said yesterday.
Mithona Phouthong, governor of Koh Kong, plans to promote the dipping sauce recipe to find investment partners in China. She will make a virtual presentation at the Intangible Heritage Conference to be held in Shanxi province, China on October 29.
