Congresswoman Adams Announces Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Receive over $43 Million from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

CHARLOTTE- Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) announced that $43,247,316 in new federal funding under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is headed to Charlotte to improve Charlotte Douglas International Airport. As one of the top 10 busiest airports in the world, CLT is a key economic driver for the Carolinas. The airport is currently in the process of realizing the Destination CLT capital investment plan, a multi-billion dollar effort to accommodate passenger growth through 2035.

"I was proud to vote for the bipartisan Infrastructure law, which provides a $43 million grant for Charlotte Douglas International Airport. With this grant, we will deliver new good-paying jobs in the Carolinas while continuing to improve our airport with approximately $215 million in grants over five years," said Congresswoman Adams. "When I fly in and out of CLT to go to work in Washington, I see the impressive work Charlotte has already started to update and modernize the airport. By helping to continue renovations like the terminal lobby expansion as well as expanding the number of gates at the airport, we will ensure that all travelers flying to or from Charlotte have an easier and safer journey. Together, we're building an airport fit for the Queen City."

Charlotte Douglas International Airport will receive a similar tranche of funding from the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law each year for the next five years, as part of a program for airport development. The tranche could vary from year to year, as the funding reflects annual enplanement totals. In addition to these guaranteed funds, CLT can compete with other airports across the country for grants from an additional $5 billion nationally for terminal and landside improvements.

On November 15th, President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which included $15 billion in formula funding to help redevelop airports across the country. Projects that qualify for funding include: improvements to runways and taxiways, terminal development and noise prevention. The law also includes an additional $5 billion nationally for FAA towers and facilities funding, which the FAA will distribute among airports in need. Rep. Adams recently hosted Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in Charlotte to talk about how the law will help Charlotte achieve its transportation priorities.

"Under the leadership of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and House Democrats, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a tremendous victory for North Carolina," continued Adams. "I was proud to support this historic legislation in the House, and I will keep fighting to ensure every family can benefit from these investments as we rebuild and reimagine Charlotte and Mecklenburg County's infrastructure."
