USDOT Intern Program Applications Open Now!

Friday, March 26, 2021

This is to announce that the DOT Secretarial Intern Program (SIP) vacancy announcement is now open to students interested in a summer internship with the Department of Transportation. The vacancy can be found at https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/596133600. The announcement opened today and will close on April 5, 2021.

The SIP summer program runs from June 14, 2021 to August 20, 2021. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the current/upcoming semesters for the duration of the internship and must provide documentation to support their eligibility for the program. The SIP is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with an opportunity to work for the DOT in any one of our Operating Administrations. The program is open to interns pursuing a variety of academic majors from Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Information Technology, Law and a wide variety of other backgrounds.

Each Operating Administration (Mode) requests interns through their Human Resource Office and are responsible for funding the intern positions. Once the summer program ends, the office sponsoring an intern will have an opportunity to extend the interns appointment, if they choose to do so.

This intern program is a key component to bringing in new talent to the Department and building the pipeline of diverse young people interested in public service that the Secretary has spoken about. Please spread the word about the announcement and if you are interested in sponsoring an intern, please reach out to your Human Resource Office.

The SIP is just one of many different student programs run by DOT. A full description of the various programs can be found on the DOT website here.
