LOUISVILLE, KY-The Bellarmine Field Hockey team kicks off its 2019 season with a pair of exhibitions this Saturday and Sunday on campus at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. On Saturday, the Knights welcome intrastate rival Centre College at 1 p.m. with the DePauw Tigers visiting 24 hours later. Admission will be free for both exhibitions. Saturday's game marks the head coaching debut of , who has taken the reins after serving as an assistant coach the past five seasons. Boisvert welcomes back a healthy portion of last year's offensive firepower with the top seven scorers returning for 2019. While the defensive back line saw two starters graduate, Bellarmine will be experienced in goal with both cage-minders ( and ) coming back from last year's team. Four different players eclipsed the 10-point plateau for last year's Knights squad, which posted an 8-9 overall record. Junior was the leading scorer with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Senior added 15 points (6G, 3A) with chipping in 13 (4G, 5A) and scoring 11 (5G, 1A). Bellarmine's opening opponent, Centre, will provide stiff competition as the Colonels return their top two scorers from last year's team that posted a 12-4 record. Savannah Elpers paced Centre with 20 goals and added six assists last year while Sarah Biggs netted 18 goals and dished out two helpers. Defensively, the Colonels welcome back goalie Kristen Mulcahy after posting a goals-against average of just 0.93 and making 70.2 percent of possible saves in the 2018 season. Last season, the Knights defeated Centre in an exhibition that served as both teams' unofficial openers. Bellarmine notched the 3-2 victory although Centre outshot the Knights 13-8 with Gregory making six saves to help preserve the win for Bellarmine. On Sunday, the Knights welcome DePauw to Frazier Stadium for the first time since Bellarmine scrimmaged the Tigers to open the 2016 season. DePauw, a Division III school from Greencastle, Indiana, is coming off a 9-10 season. The Tigers welcome back their top two scorers (Kate Milner and Cathy Zesiger) along with top goalie Allie Duranceau.
