Volleyball Receives Academic Accolade from AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Illinois College volleyball team took home one last honor from the 2018-19 campaign on Monday when the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) listed the Lady Blues as one of a record-setting 1,125 volleyball teams in the country to receive the organization's Team Academic Award.

To receive the AVCA Team Academic Award, a team must have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 for the academic year. The AVCA recognized teams from all levels of NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, junior college and NCCAA. Collegiate men's and beach volleyball teams were also recognized, as were high school boys' and girls' teams.

At the NCAA Division III level, Illinois College was one of 175 teams to make the cut and one of five from the Midwest Conference. The Lady Blues compiled the department's highest team GPA this past Spring with a 3.533 and put a MWC-best 15 representatives among volleyball programs on the Academic All-MWC Team earlier this month.

The Lady Blues have the 2019 season right around the corner and host 10 matches in a challenging slate at home in Sherman Gymnasium. The year starts off with a two-day home tournament on Aug. 30 and 31 featuring matches against Rockford University (Aug. 30 at 8 p.m.), Simpson College (Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.) and Anderson University (Aug. 31 at 2 p.m.).
