DALLAS - The Junior League of Dallas and Texas Instruments awarded 40 Dallas ISD educators with grants of up to $2,500 each through the annual Grants for Innovative Teaching program.

Some of the grants selected include: Basketball Recycling, Drummin' and Movin' with Drums Alive!, Music Recording and Production in the Modern Music Classroom, Rigor with Robots - Taking it to the Next Level and Kids Helping Kids.

Families who wish to change learning model must notify their schools
Dallas ISD families who want to switch their student's learning model- either from distance learning to on-campus learning or from on-campus learning to distance learning- for the second nine-week grading period must contact their child's campus during the course of this week (through Oct. 30).

SPED Department provides useful information for parents at Parent Academy
The Dallas ISD Special Education Department is providing district parents and guardians free monthly informational sessions and engaging opportunities. Future sessions will include topics such as how to assist students with ADHD and how to deal with the grieving process, as well as a conversation between the district's SPED director, Michelle Brown, and a member of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council.

Student Activities hosts second middle school cheer camp
Middle school students from Dallas ISD spent the first two Saturdays in October participating in cheer camps at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy. During the camps, more than 100 cheerleaders from 10 schools learned dances and cheers while adhering to COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Guidelines, including social distancing, wearing masks and washing and sanitizing hands.

This is the second year that Dallas ISD Student Activities sponsored camps for middle school cheerleaders.

Dallas ISD districtwide closure
As part of the new calendar adopted by the board of Trustees this year, all district campuses and central offices will be closed on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
