ShotSpotter Notification Assists in Burglary Apprehension

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- On January 24,2022, at approximately 1025hours, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1000 block of Coach Circle. As officers were investigating the alert, dispatchadvised there was a residential burglary in progressin the same block of Coach Circlewith several suspects. Due to the ShotSpotter alert, officers were already on scene and able to apprehend one of the burglary suspectsin real time. Officers were able to recover all stolen property and returned it to the victim.

The individual taken into custody was identified as James Murphy, 24, ofNorfolk. Murphy was charged with Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony.
