HCBS Quality Measures Webinar Replay and Materials Available

The quality of life of older adults and persons living with all types of disabilities is closely tied to the services they receive in home and community settings. Among these services are residential supports, personal care services, mental health services, and community living supports.

Despite its importance, the quality of home and community-based services (HCBS), as well as the outcomes for older adults and people with disabilities who receive them experience, has historically been difficult to define and even more difficult to measure.

Through working with researchers, measure developers, policymakers, and advocates, the Research and Training Center on HCBS Outcome Measurement (RTC/OM) at the University of Minnesota Institute on Community Integration has developed measures that focus on how well Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) are helping older adults and people with a variety of disabilities live the lives they want.

This webinar held on May 3:

• Provided an overview of ACL vision regarding quality measure development;
• Reviewed the importance of high-quality, person-centered outcome measures that can be used to compare provider performance and increase outcomes desired by participants; and
• Reviewed opportunities for providers and the older adults and people with disabilities they support to participate in measure testing.
