Taichung to host 2019 Para Asian Championships

Next year, the Para Asian Championships will be held in Chinese Taipei for the first time after Taichung won the vote to host the five-day event between 23-27 July 2019.

Taichung came away with a resounding 85.7% victory to beat off competition from Busan (Korea Republic) and Chiang Mai (Thailand).

More than 200 players are expected to take part in the tournament at John Paul II Sports Hall of Providence University, in which participants can book their place for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The tournament will consist of Singles and Team events for physically impaired athletes (classes 1-10) and intellectually impaired athletes (class 11).

The event continues Chinese Taipei's strong tradition in hosting Para table tennis tournaments, with Taichung having already staged four TT Opens for the Disabled between 2011 and 2017.

The Para Asian Championships will be entering its fourth edition in Taichung after twice being held in Beijing, China (in 2013 and 2017) and once in Amman, Jordan (in 2015). China has led the medal count on all three occasions to date.
