Vietnamese delegation attends ADSOM and ADSOM+ in Cambodia

(Bqp.vn) - On May 16, Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien attended the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials' Meeting (ADSOM) and the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials' Meeting Plus (ADSOM+) from May 17 - 18 in Cambodia.

Accordingly, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien had bilateral meetings with Heads of Cambodia and Singapore delegations before ADSOM and ADSOM+

At the meeting with General Nem Sowat, Director of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the two sides highly appreciated the bilateral defense cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia over the past time. The success of the 5th Vietnam - Cambodia Defense Policy Dialogue and the first Vietnam - Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange did create a ripple effect among the people and armies of the two countries about the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries. The two heads of the delegation agreed to closely coordinate and effectively implement the contents of the 2022 Defense Cooperation Plan, especially the contents agreed by the two defense ministers at their talks within the framework of the first Vietnam - Cambodia border defense friendship exchange.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien congratulated Ministry of National Defense and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces for successfully hosting the ASEAN meetings in offline format (after two years of being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic). The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will support Cambodia in the role as Chair of ASEAN 2022, he affirmed.

At the meeting with Singaporean Permanent Secretary for Defense Chan Heng Kee, the two sides highly appreciated the good friendship between two ministries, reflected in the implementation of many practical cooperation contents, especially in the context that the two defense ministers signed the Agreement on bilateral defense cooperation in February 2022.

Also at the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien suggested that the two sides should continue consulting and supporting each other at multilateral forums; actively participating in multilateral activities organized by each other. The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has received an invitation to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue in June 2022 and will send a high-level delegation to attend the event, he added.
