GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated each year in the month of May. The Department of Defense's theme for this year's observance is, "Advancing Leaders Through Innovation." 2. The observance recognizing Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month was established by Title 36, U.S. Code, Section 102, and provides an opportunity to publicly recognize and reflect on the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders toward the history, culture, and achievements of our Nation.
3. The Marine Corps pays tribute to the generations of Asian American Pacific Islanders who have enriched our Nation's history through their countless contributions, vibrant cultures, and rich heritage. The Marine Corps honors the stories of Asian American and Pacific Islander service members like Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jason Pierce, who was born in the Philippines and left anonymously on the doorstep of an orphanage. At six months old, he was rescued and adopted by an American missionary family. He enlisted, and after 12 years of service, he was selected to become a chief warrant officer. Leadership has been the hallmark of his career, and his professional experience spans over 26 years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps. He continually focused on executing supply chain management in chaotic environments. He completed a fellowship at Amazon's Headquarters Supply Chain Optimization Technologies in Seattle, Washington, and earned multiple Supply Chain Professional Certificates from the Georgia Institute of Technology. The Marine Corps recognizes Asian American Pacific Islanders, both in and out of the Corps, who fulfill America's promise of new opportunity achieved through sacrifice, risk-taking, and hard work, rather than by chance.
4. During this observance month, commanders are encouraged to recognize and celebrate the invaluable service and selfless contributions of military and civilian Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to our country and Corps. Commanders are further Encouraged to conduct programs and promote participation in observance events within their commands and across their local communities.
5. The Marine Corps is dedicated to serving in accordance with the values we defend by standardizing dignity and respect towards all people, no matter what immutable characteristics they possess. With the steadfast promotion of a professional environment, free from social or institutional barriers, we create an atmosphere for Marines to realize and embrace their full potential.
