SAN ANTONIO (July 1, 2022)- The future of responsible pet care in our community, increased pet resources, and even potential city ordinance revision are all up for discussion as San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) hosts a series of strategic planning meetings with the public. Following an initial community survey this Spring, shelter staff will now host five public forums to better understand residents' views of local animal issues. The two-hour moderated meetings will take place throughout July at the following locations:

  • Tues. 7/12 | 6:00 pm @ Frank Garrett Community Center, 1226 NW 18th St.
  • Wed. 7/13 | 6:00 pm @ Denver Heights Community Center, 300 Porter St.
  • Thurs. 7/14 | 6:00 pm @ Millers Pond Community Center, 6075 Old Pearsall Rd.
  • Sat. 7/16 | 10:00 am @ Father Roman Community Center, 11030 Ruidosa
  • Tues. 7/19 | 6:00 pm @ Hamilton Community Center 10700 Nacogdoches Rd.

Each meeting will include public discussion opportunities as well as giveaways for attendees. San Antonio Animal Care Services is an open-admission shelter and one of the largest municipal animal agencies in the country, intaking close to 30 thousand pets annually. The last update to the department's strategic plan took place in 2012-the current revisions are expected to move forward with recommendations to City leadership this fall and a final Council vote in early 2023.
