'Power of the People' Grand Opening at Pembina State Museum

June 24, 2022

BISMARCK, N.D. - A brief program and refreshments on July 2 at 11 a.m. will mark the official opening of "Power of the People: North Dakota Rural Electrification," a free exhibition at the Pembina State Museum in Pembina. The exhibit outlines the process of bringing electricity to rural communities and farmers in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Explore the reflections of people who experienced this revolution in technology firsthand and view artifacts representing rural life both before and after the arrival of electricity.

Sponsored by Touchstone Energy Cooperatives of North Dakota, the new exhibit complements the main museum exhibits highlighting upper Red River Valley history. The seven-story observation tower provides visitors a commanding view of the surrounding prairie.

View "Power of the People: North Dakota Rural Electrification," during regular museum hours, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For information about upcoming programs of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, go to history.nd.gov/events.
