ITV News' Robert Moore wins at two awards ceremonies on one night for ITV documentary, Storming The Capitol

Rounds off a strong year of recognition for Moore's extraordinary report

ITV documentary Storming The Capitol was last night honoured at two prestigious awards ceremonies - The Rose D'Or Awards and The Foreign Press Association Media Awards - ahead of strong competition from other national and international broadcasters.

Winning in the Rose D'Or's inaugural News and Current affairs category, Storming The Capitol secured the highest number of votes from the jury this year, therefore also receiving the prestigious Golden Rose.

At The Foreign Press Association Media Awards Storming The Capitol was the winner in the TV News Story of the Year category, with Robert Moore receiving the Journalist of The Year 2021 award on the night.

The wins last night round off an extraordinary year for ITV News Washington Correspondent Robert Moore, producer Sophie Alexander, and camera operator Mark Davey who were the only news crew who filmed the rioters as they stormed Capitol Hill on January 6 2021.

Their report shocked America and the world, and has gone on to win multiple awards. These include topping the Single News Report category at the Association for International Broadcasting Awards for journalism and factual productions, as well as the international Golden Nymph Awards, in which Moore's report won the News category.

Producer Sophie Alexander also went on to win the Media category of the Women of the Future Awards and camera operator Mark Davey was recently recognised for his astonishing pictures, winning the competitive Photography in Documentary/Factual award at the RTS Craft Awards.

Michael Jermey, ITV's Director of News and Current Affairs said:

"Robert Moore and his team did a remarkable job covering the storming of the US Capitol. Robert's exclusive eyewitness reporting took viewers to the heart of the dramatic and important story. It was broadcast journalism at its very best."

Robert Moore's historic report first ran exclusively on ITV's flagship News At Ten on January 6 2021, watched by 2.8 million people, and was added to ITV News' digital coverage moments after airing live on TV. On Twitter it has been watched more than 11 million times, liked 83,000 times and generated 132 million impressions - eclipsing all Twitter impressions in 2020 by a significant margin. It also resulted in an additional 30,000 new followers to the ITV News Twitter page. ITV explored the story further in our quick turnaround documentary, Storming the Capitol: The Inside Story, which used unseen footage from the day, and Robert Moore's time in the US more generally, to explore in-depth the events that led to the storming of the US Capitol, with the documentary watched by over 2.3 million viewers.
