Kutztown men's rugby finishes CRCs with a final four defeat to eventual champion Lindenwood

CHESTER, Pa.
- The nationally-ranked Kutztown University men's rugby team once again had a strong showing at the 2019 Collegiate Rugby Championships, advancing to the national semifinals, falling to eventual national champion Lindenwood 30-12 Sunday afternoon in Chester. The Golden Bears finish a successful 2019 spring sevens season. They defeated St. Mary's 24-19 Sunday morning in the Championship quarterfinal round.
Lindenwood 30, Kutztown 12 (National semifinal) Having to play with a banged up , Kutztown battled and was neck-and-neck with defending national champ Lindenwood. After going down early, allowing the first try of the match, the Maroon and Gold tied it. KU, however, allowed three straight tries and was down 22-5 at halftime. Kutztown 24, St. Mary's 19 (National quarterfinal) Kutztown struck first with a converted try in the battle between the 1 and 8 seed. second try and second conversion made it 14-0 in favor of the Golden Bears. Derek Ellingson's try for the Gaels along with Sean Yacoubian made it a contest. At the midway point of the second half, the Gaels leveled it when Ellingson again broke free for a try under the post and Yacoubian slotted the conversion. The Gaels captured the lead Tavite Lopeti fought through a tackle that strimmed him of his shirt and saw him hobbled off the field to score in the right corner. turned on the class and hopped over a tackler to score in the right corner and force sudden-death extra time. Noble's second try of the match sent the Golden Bears to the semifinal.
