Meet The Team: Dr Luigi Petrone

The team at AqualisBraemar LOC shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world's oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know AqualisBraemar LOC, but do you know our team?

Dr Luigi Petrone, Principal Scientist | AqualisBraemar LOC, Singapore

What do you do at AqualisBraemar LOC?

I am a Principal Scientist within the Adjusting Team in Singapore. I investigate complex matters relating to cargo and coating claims. In relation to cargoes, I routinely deal with cases of contamination, fire and explosion, deterioration and liquefaction. I advise on matters relating to storage and carriage of liquid cargoes, fuels/bunkers, dry bulk cargoes, containerised and dangerous goods in accordance with IMSBC and IMDG Codes.

In addition, I am a certified coating inspector (ICorr Level 3), investigating the causes of failure or damage to coatings applied to ships, offshore structures, port terminals and pipelines.

Thanks to my knowledge and hands-on experience with chemistry, I have carried out high-profile forensic investigations into explosions, fires and thefts at refineries, petrochemical plants, waste treatment plants, and onboard vessels. Lastly, I provide litigation support services and assist courts or tribunals as an Expert Witness.

What excites you the most about our industry?

I love being able to travel around the globe to attend on sites for my forensic investigations, visiting different countries and getting to know people from a variety of backgrounds. This job has truly opened up my mind and revealed to me how this world is deeply interconnected.

What made you join AqualisBraemar LOC?

The working environment at ABL is so positive and encourages me to push a step further, going beyond my limits and expanding my expertise to new exciting fields, such as in renewables.

What do you do when you are not working?

I am an avid chess player (I didn't say good), but I also enjoy playing football and reading books on physics and evolution. I forgot to mention that sleeping is perhaps the activity I love the most to mentally recharge for my next job at ABL!
