Two Michelin Retirees Recognized for Innovative Contributions to Industry

GREENVILLE, S.C., May 3, 2022 - The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society has recognized two retired Michelin engineers as the recipients of the Charles Goodyear Medal for their significant impact on the industry through their work on airless tire technology.

Steve Cron, who retired as a senior principal product research engineer, and Tim Rhyne, retired research fellow, both received the American Chemical Society Rubber Division's Charles Goodyear Medal, one of the highest technical awards in the tire industry. The purpose of the award is to honor individuals for outstanding invention or development resulting in significant contribution to the rubber industry.

Steve and Tim's work led to significant advancement in mobility and the innovation of products, including the Michelin Tweel®, the industry's first commercialized airless radial tire solution. Today, Tweel is available on a wide range of applications, from lawn mowers to skid steers to golf carts.
