Greenbelt Park to reopen campgrounds, picnic areas and roads following completion of major rehabilitation project

GREENBELT, Md. - The National Park Service (NPS) will reopen Greenbelt Park to vehicles, camping and picnicking on Nov. 1 following a major road rehabilitation project. This concludes a project started in Sept. 2019. Visitors will enjoy repaved roads, a new bridge over Still Creek, a renovated Ranger Station and improved campsites.

The areas of the park reopening on Nov. 1 include:  

• Park Central Road from the park entrance to the park campground.

• Still Creek Bridge.

• Sweetgum picnic and parking areas.

• Dogwood parking area.

• The Greenbelt Park Ranger Station.

• Greenbelt Park campground.

• Greenbelt Headquarters parking area.

• All other road surfaces from the park entrance to the intersection of Park Central Road and the road to the Ranger Station.

Greenbelt Park features a 172-site campground, nine miles of trails and three picnic areas. In some ways Greenbelt is a "backyard" national park, as many locals come to camp, hike, picnic and run. The park provides the feel of camping in a backcountry setting while remaining close to home. This 1,100-acre park is located just 12 miles from downtown Washington, DC, and 23 miles from Baltimore, MD. Greenbelt also attracts visitors from across the country and around the world who are drawn by the recreational opportunities, natural beauty and a campground that is open year-round.

Camping reservations for Greenbelt Park campground also open on Nov. 1, and can be found at Greenbelt Campground, Greenbelt Park - Recreation.gov.
