Even With Families In Turmoil & COVID Death Toll Surpassing 500,000 Americans, Senate Republicans Gearing Up To Vote Against Urgently Needed Relief Legislation

With last night's passage of the American Rescue Plan in the House, Democrats are moving forward to fulfill their promise of delivering COVID-19 relief to the American people. In the Senate, Mitch McConnell and Republicans remain opposed to this urgently needed aid that 'enjoys strong, bipartisan support nationwide ' and are now gearing up to obstruct and delay the legislation - even as millions of hardworking families remain in financial turmoil and more than half a million Americans have already died from coronavirus in less than a year.

Senate Republicans are opposing a relief package that will:

  • Deliver $1,400 direct relief checks
  • Ramp up vaccine distribution and testing
  • Provide additional funding to help schools safely reopen
  • Send critical aid to state and local governments to keep first responders on the job
  • Boost emergency unemployment insurance
  • Extend critical small business assistance

The American Rescue Plan has broad public support, including from:

'While Democrats are working as quickly as possible to deliver meaningful relief to rescue our economy and beat this pandemic, Senate Republicans are playing political games and turning their backs on struggling families,' said DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss. 'From new direct checks to ramp up vaccine distribution to funding for schools, this package has earned overwhelming public support because it's exactly what's needed right now to get us through this crisis. Every Senate Republican who votes against this commonsense plan will be failing the country and their constituents.'
