Police schedule Coffee with a Cop in Saturday, June 4

MURPHY (May 19, 2022) While 'protect and serve' are the cornerstone principles of the Murphy Police Department, a strong case can be made to include 'connect and communicate' to the foundational values of the department.

To emphasize the point, Murphy Police have scheduled a "Coffee With A Cop" event on Saturday, June 4 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, 102 North Murphy Road, Suite 1021.

"The men and women of the Murphy Police Department have a strong sense of community, every person we come in contact with can attest to that," says Chief Chris Chandler. "We protect and serve, but we also seek to make a strong connection with residents and visitors. The Coffee with a Cop event is yet another opportunity to enforce that guiding principle."

Residents are warmly encouraged to add the event to their calendars, giving themselves an opportunity to meet and converse with Murphy Police Officers. Department officials maintain that the best time to meet officers is when there is a complete absence of tension or trauma.

"We of course, will always answer emergencies and we will proceed with the highest level of professionalism during these interactions," continued the Chief, "but when we're under the stress of ensuring everyone's safety and security, we seldom have time to develop relationships. That's why these Coffee with a Cop encounters are so important."

Meeting officers, asking questions, exchanging information, and developing rapport are the main purposes of the June 4 event, including having candid and honest conversations.

While residents who attend may elect to purchase refreshments from the establishment, there is no requirement to do so. The event is free to attend.
