Defence Minister’s meeting with the Ambassador of Germany

On Thursday, April 25, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a meeting with the Ambassador of Germany to Bucharest, Peer Gebauer.

The dialogue mainly focused on the security developments generated by the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine and the challenges for the Black Sea region. Minister Tîlvăr emphasized the importance of allied efforts in strengthening regional security and expressed Romania's firm commitment to continuing the multidimensional support offered to Ukraine, pointing out the training efforts carried out within EUMAM and Interflex, as well as the steps taken to initiate the training of Ukrainian pilots within the European F-16 Training Center in Romania, when this is possible.

The Romanian official welcomed Germany's commitment to strengthening security on NATO's Eastern Flank, as well as this country's leadership in a series of multilateral initiatives.

"Germany is an important partner for Romania, which has proved allied solidarity in the difficult regional security context. We welcome Germany's commitment to implementing the deterrence and defence measures on the Allied Eastern Flank", Minister Tîlvăr emphasized.

At the same time, aspects of Romanian-German defence cooperation were addressed during the discussions, in a bilateral format, as well as within NATO and the EU, the excellent level of political-military dialogue being appreciated. The immediate priorities of the bilateral military cooperation, as well as the importance of continuing coordination at different levels were highlighted.

In this context, the perspective of the further enhancement of technical-military cooperation to consolidate defence capabilities was also approached.

"We appreciate the involvement of the German companies in the modernization of the Romanian defence industry, including in the manufacturing of certain critical components", the Minister of National Defence pointed out.
