Rep. Wild Statement on Iranian Attack Against Israel

Today, in response to Iran's attack on the State of Israel, Rep. Susan Wild,a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement:

"We cannot let a day go by that further emboldens Iran to continue their unprecedented attack against our longstanding ally, Israel. Congress must reconvene immediately to pass an aid package.

'We are facing critical tests around the globe and must rise to the occasion to meet this moment. In addition to passing aid that is vital for Israel's defense, that also means supporting our Ukrainian allies as they continue to defend themselves against Vladimir Putin's aggression.

'And it means passing robust humanitarian aid to counter the desperate conditions facing civilians in Gaza and other vulnerable populations around the world. That too is vital to our security and that of our allies.

'Failing to meet any one of these responsibilities amounts to abdicating our leadership around the globe at a time when it has never been more critically needed.

'Under Republican and Democratic administrations alike, U.S. foreign policy has been at its best when we combine a robust approach to our defense and that of our allies with the understanding that we must be a force for de-escalation-not continued escalation-in moments of crisis.

'Over the coming days and weeks, let us remember that it is imperative for our nation to avoid spiraling into an open-ended conflict that could put our troops in harm's way.

'This moment calls for us to act strategically and to anticipate the consequences of our actions. Let us formulate a response to these global challenges that is worthy of the American people and, first and foremost, our brave men and women in uniform risking their lives on our behalf every single day."
