Police have determined there was no threat, but rather a juvenile male playing a joke on a friend. Eugene Police School Resource team is thankful for the notification regarding the issue so they could investigate. SRT made contact with the juvenile, who has been lodged at Serbu Justice Center on charges of Disorderly Conduct.
Last night, Eugene Police School Resource officers worked through most of the night investigating a post that originated on Yolo and was shared by a juvenile student on Snapchat, which just said not to go to school. The message was anonymous and there was no other information or specific threat. A parent contacted authorities to report this. The SROs contacted the involved student who shared the vague, indirect message. Its origin was unknown until the investigation.
Police commend the student and parent for reporting this incident so that it could be investigated, as well as the male's parents for their cooperation. Police had increased their presence at the school to provide a sense of safety to the students, staff and parents.
Yolo is an app that allows people to post anonymously, and police want to remind parents to monitor their children's use of social media.
