Dangerous Supreme Court decision gives green light to corporate criminals

Des Moines, Iowa - Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling in West Virginia v. EPA :

"No matter what we look like or where we live, Iowans want to take care of our families and feel safe and connected to our communities. But the growing crisis of climate change is a threat to us all. We have lived through historic flooding, a derecho that ripped through our state, and lost too many of our friends and neighbors as a result of the drastically changing climate.

"Today's decision from the Supreme Court is one more trampling of our freedoms and a significant step backward in the fight against the climate crisis. It will make us less safe and our air and water less clean, all to profit the wealthy corporations polluting in our backyards. This ruling severely limits the government's ability to take meaningful action or hold wealthy corporations accountable.

"A majority of Americans believe climate change is a major problem, but this MAGA court only rules for the wealthy few. It is now more important than ever that our leaders pass meaningful legislation to combat the climate crisis."
