Huertas title permutations: how the Spanish rider can be crowned Champion in Jerez

The Championship leader can take the WorldSSP300 Championship during the Spanish Round in Race 1

The 2021 campaign in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship has been an enthralling one so far but Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) finds himself in a position to secure the 2021 crown in Race 1 in the Motul Spanish Round with the absence of title rival Tom Booth-Amos (Fusport - RT Motorsports by SKM - Kawasaki) and the current gap to reigning Champion and teammate Jeffrey Buis.

Huertas leads Booth-Amos by 43 points and Buis by 65 points heading into Race 1 at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, with Huertas in the slightly unusual situation of needing to build a gap of 50 points to second-place Booth-Amos and 75 points to Buis in Race 1. As Booth-Amos has been declared unfit following a crash in Barcelona and subsequent surgery, he will not be competing in Jerez. With 100 points available, but potentially only 50 for Booth-Amos, it changes the title permutations.

With the current gaps, Huertas needs to score ten points more than Buis, which will automatically be enough to take him over the threshold required to beat Booth-Amos. Huertas will take the title on Saturday if he wins the race and Buis finishes fourth or lower, giving Huertas a 77-point lead over Buis.

If Huertas claims second place in Race 1, he needs teammate Buis to finish sixth or lower in order to claim the Championship on Saturday as Buis will be 75 points back from Huertas with 75 available. It is the same scenario if Huertas takes home third place on Saturday and Buis finishes tenth or lower in Race 1, with a 75-point gap between the pair.
