Banner Season at Hillsview Golf Course

With a 230 day playing season, 2021 was a busy year for Hillsview Municipal Golf Course.

"We racked up more rounds played this year than in any year since the 2011 flood," said Carin Hayn, Hillsview PGA. "We saw similar growth in season passes as well."

More than 32,300 rounds of golf were played at the city-owned course in 2021, and more than 450 players held season passes. Hayn pointed to a number of reasons for this year's successful season.

"When you have good weather, your numbers reflect that. So, Mother Nature definitely gets some of the credit," said Hayn. "But we also have a very passionate golfing community that advocates well for our course and the community."

In 2021, Hillsview hosted more than 40 events including the SDGA Men's and Women's Match Play Championship, the SDGA Junior Tour Championship, and the Desert Classic.

"Securing those events is a competitive process. Many golf courses want to host those tournaments. Like I said before, we have some really great local ambassadors who help us create a sought after environment," said Hayn.

Adding evidence to that sentiment Hayn said that this year the Ladies and Men's Golf Associations donated patio furniture, a TV, and tournament software to the course. Additionally, in memory of John Hipple, his family donated funds that were used to purchase multiple sets of clubs for the course's junior golf program.

Parks and Recreation Director Tom Farnsworth chimed in with his own thoughts on the successful season.

"It was a banner year and much thanks goes to the staff," said Farnsworth. "Carin provides top notch customer service. And despite a dry year, our superintendent, Bryan Tipton, kept our course in great condition."

Hillsview wrapped up its 2021 season on Nov. 11.

It is a par 72 course that features bent grass greens, bluegrass fairways and tees. The Clubhouse is full-service facility featuring a pro-shop, snack bar, grill and seating for 80. The kid's course is marked out along the fairways.
