Experience Art214 before it ends! ️

This week is your final chance to view Art214 before it ends this Saturday, May 28. Fun fact: did you know that the exhibit originated from the South Dallas Cultural Center back in 2015? And was originally named BlackArt214? Now you do!

Since then, Art214 has expanded into a juried art exhibition highlighting different artists in the North Texas region. The show is supported by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, curated by Daisha Board, and juried by Marilyn Waligore, Raul Rodriguez, Narong Tintamusik, Gerald L. Leavell II, and David McCullough.

Congratulations to all the artists that were selected for this year's collection and showcased their work at SDCC and our sister cultural centers!

On May 18, workshop participants learned about the basic elements and principles of design, explore different mediums and created their own masterpiece with Ashley Veluah J. of The Coloring Boxx.

The class was exposed to a variety African and African American artists and art to use as references in applications of certain elements and principles. The workshop helped those who attended build confidence and inspired them to activate and engage their creativity.

In collaboration with Dallas Innovation Alliance (DIA), workshop attendees, young and young-at-heart, created colorful pieces to display in their garden, front yard, or even the kitchen counter. During the 2-hour session, the class learned about various life cycles, created unique and adorable planting pots, and took home a succulent plant to nourish and grow. Instructor Annie from DIA also taught about the good and bad bugs for gardens while creating bug-like rocks that will attract valuable critters.
