October 05, 2019, 06:55 GMT

The preparations to launch the Proton-M carrier rocket with the Briz-M booster carrying communication satellite Eutelsat 5 West B and technological spacecraft Mission Extension Vehicle-1 continue at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The rocket is scheduled to liftoff on October 9, 2019 at 10:17:56 UTC.

On October 5, according to the working schedule the space rocket was transported from the technological fueling pad to the pad No.200 launch complex of the cosmodrome. Following the rocket erection, the service tower was moved to the vehicle, and Roscosmos enterprises specialists started working according to the launch day No. 1 schedule.

Eutelsat 5 West B is a Ku-band satellite that will be located at 5 degrees west longitude and will be mostly oriented to cover the markets of France, Italy and Algeria. The satellite will provide continuous work and improved quality of Ku-band load 35 equivalent to the 36 MHz frequency transponders of the three service areas for the abovementioned markets. The switchable bands will also allow increasing commercial flexibility.

Northrop Grumman has manufactured Mission Extension Vehicle-1 (MEV-1) spacecraft, which will be the first one to provide satellite life prolongation services with SpaceLogistics LLC (100% Northrop Grumman subsidiary) being the service provider. MEV-1 will dock to client satellites located at the geosynchronous orbit using existing satellite capabilities in regards to height and orientation of the spacecraft assembly. During its 15-year life period MEV-1 will be able to dock and undock several times which will allow servicing several client satellites.
