Butterfield Congratulates Victor Armstrong and Angela Bryant on NC DHHS Appointments

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement after the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) announced Victor Armstrong as the new Chief Health Equity Officer and Angela Bryant as the Assistant Secretary for Equity and Inclusion:

"I am pleased to congratulate Victor Armstrong on his appointment as the first Chief Health Equity Officer at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services," said Congressman Butterfield. "In this role, Mr. Armstrong will work to advance health equity and reduce disparities for disadvantaged populations, and I strongly believe he will be a driving force behind North Carolina's efforts to combat these health challenges our communities face.

"I would also like to congratulate former State Senator Angela Bryant, who will serve alongside Mr. Armstrong as the Assistant Secretary of Equity and Inclusion for NCDHHS. In this role, Ms. Bryant will work with the Chief Health Equity Officer to develop, operationalize, and evaluate the Department's health equity work, as well as lead the Department's internal diversity and inclusion work. Senator Bryant has long been a fierce advocate for equity and justice for not only the constituents she represented in the state legislature, but for all North Carolinians. She is supremely qualified for this position.

"Delivering equity requires urgent and sound leadership, and these appointments demonstrate NCDHHS fully understands this. I applaud the NCDHHS on setting internal goals and prioritizing diversity and inclusion on all levels of leadership."
