Washington, D.C.- House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman Gregory Meeks (D-NY), as well as Lead Republican and Chairman of the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, Migration and International Economic Policy Subcommittee Reps. Mark Green (R-TN) and Rep. Albio Sires (D-NJ), issued a joint statement in response to ongoing efforts to help the Haitian people recover from the earthquake that struck the country over the weekend.

'Our thoughts are with the people of Haiti in the aftermath of Saturday's devastating earthquake that killed over 1,400 people and caused widespread devastation. We extend our condolences to the victims' families and all those affected by this tragedy.

'We commend USAID, SOUTHCOM, the Coast Guard, our international partners, and local public safety officials for their quick response. Specialized teams are on the ground conducting search and rescue operations and meeting the urgent needs of those impacted. Congress will continue to stand with the people of Haiti as they recover from this disaster, ensuring aid reaches marginalized communities and is administered where possible in consultation with local Haitian organizations.'
