Community College of Philadelphia Announces Faye Allard, Ph.D., as 2022 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award Winner

As head of the College's Social Science department, Dr. Allard's work focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion

PHILADELPHIA - Community College of Philadelphia has announced Dr. Faye Allard, head of the College's Social Science department and associate professor of Social Science, as the recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Teaching Award from the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation. The Lindback award is the highest teaching honor bestowed at the College and includes a $4,000 stipend for the winner's use.

The award recognizes excellence in teaching, student engagement, fostering learning outside of the classroom, as well as keeping up with or advancing best practices in education. The College has been honoring faculty with the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award since 1974.

"The College is pleased to announce Dr. Faye Allard as the recipient of this year's Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award," said College President Dr. Donald "Guy" Generals. "Dr. Allard's commitment to her students and the profession extends well beyond the classroom. Through her work, she continues to remind us of the important role that we as educators play in transforming the lives of our students."

Dr. Allard began teaching at the College in 2014 and in 2020, she became chair of the Social Science department. As chair, she successfully led the department in transitioning to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and spent weeks helping to develop hands-on and interactive virtual training courses for faculty to learn how to best teach students online.

Dr. Allard's work focuses on helping individuals address their biases, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her transparent, student-centered, and active learning approach to teaching helps to ensure her students are empowered and engaged. Dr. Allard's teaching philosophy revolves around the privilege of teaching and the profound impact educators have on their students' lives.

"Learning can and should be joyful for all parties involved," said Dr. Allard. "If you enter the classroom with a commitment to maximizing fun while also delivering great content this is totally infectious; students are happy and engaged and don't even realize they are learning, in turn making teaching even more pleasurable and so the cycle (and joy) repeats. You never forget those teachers who made you feel this way."

Dr. Faye Allard earned her doctorate in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor's degree in Human Sciences from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
