CCSD Teacher Wins Statewide Hero Award

A Cherokee County School District teacher has earned a statewide award recognizing educators as heroes!

Grace Ed Technologies has named Creekview High School teacher Savannah Porter as one of the three winners of its 2022 Teacher Heroes Awards.

The education technology company accepted nominations statewide of K-12 teachers who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication, effort, character and ability over the past school year. One hundred highly qualified teachers were nominated, with 15 finalists selected and then narrowed to the three winners. Each winner will receive a $1,000 award; finalists receive $100.

"It is an honor to publicly recognize deserving educators of our community," get owner Brent Coleman said. "Reading through the many nominations is truly inspiring for our committee. It is so, so difficult for us to choose the three winners. We sincerely appreciate the heart and dedication teachers display on a daily basis."

Ms. Porter is a Special Education teacher, who joined CCSD in 2016. She is involved in numerous activities at the school including serving as the girls' lacrosse varsity team head coach and boys' swimming varsity team head coach. She co-sponsors the Friends Club, which encourages students to befriend and support classmates with special needs.

"Savannah has demonstrated to her school community, and CCSD as a whole, how committed she is to ensuring every child feels welcome, valued and able to succeed," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. "We're proud of her for all the work and care that led to this well-earned recognition. We know she is a hero in the lives of so many of the students she teaches and coaches. Congratulations and thank you!"
